Argentina Women’s Hockey team outbid Canada to reach the Pan American Cup finals
Dragflick Newsdesk : First objective accomplished for the Leonas in the Pan American Cup that is played in Santiago. The women’s team, winner of the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, defeated Canada 3-0 in one of the semifinals of the tournament and, in addition to being able to define the title on Saturday, also secured one of the three tickets available for the Spain-Netherlands World Cup to be played in July.
After a goalless first half, the Argentines opened the scoring 2 minutes into the second half with a goal from a penalty corner by Agustina Gorzelany. And in the last quarter he confirmed the victory thanks to the efficiency of Jimena Cedrés, who scored the second goal at 22 minutes of the second half and at 26 sealed the result.
Those led by Fernando Ferrara had overcome the first phase without problems by finishing first and undefeated in group A. In the debut they had thrashed Uruguay 6-0 and then beat the local Chileans 4-0.
Meanwhile, Canada had finished second in B behind the United States, with two wins and one loss.
With the victory, the selected team ensured that they would maintain their perfect attendance at the World Cups. In the tournament that will be held from July 1 to 17 in Terrassa and Amstelveen they will seek their ninth podium in history.
The Argentines are owners of two titles won in Perth 2002 and Rosario 2010 and also add three silver medals and as many bronze. In the last edition, in London 2018, they finished seventh and were outside the top three of the tournament for the first time since 2002.
